The Department of Business and Labour, through the Directorate-General for Tourism, has launched a new call for grants aimed at promoting the energy transition and sustainability in tourist accommodation across Catalonia. This year’s scheme has a budget of over €11.5 million and will remain open until 31 July.
During a recent visit to Roses, Minister Miquel Sàmper emphasised that this funding programme is designed to reduce carbon footprint, lower energy costs, and foster a more competitive and environmentally responsible tourism model.
The grants are targeted at privately managed hotels, campsites, rural tourism establishments, tourist apartments, and youth hostels that are subject to the Tourist Stay Tax.
Eligible actions include, among others:
Replacement of equipment and appliances with high energy-efficiency models.
Installation of self-consumption photovoltaic solar systems.
Improvements in waste management and recycling, supporting the circular economy.
Deployment of digital solutions such as sensors, smart monitoring, and technologies for automated resource consumption control.
Projects may receive between 25% and 70% of the eligible cost and must be completed within six months from the date the application is submitted.
With this latest round—the third since 2022—the Catalan Government has allocated more than €44.2 million to enhance the sustainability of the tourism sector, supported by EU Next Generation funds.
